Aether Gazer Global Stops Updating December 1: the Companion Server Is Planned Until September 2031, Not Guaranteed

Version 5.2 ships on December 1, 2026, and it is the last content update Aether Gazer Global will receive. The notice announcing that pre-empts the obvious reading in its next sentence: "this does not mean the game is shutting down. You'll still be able to log in and play."
What follows version 5.2 is a Companion Server. It is confirmed. Its duration is not. The operative sentence reads "with service planned to continue until September 2031", and planned is the word that has to survive every retelling of this story, including the earlier version of this page, which said guaranteed three times.
The announcement went out as a single long-form post on the official Aether Gazer EN account on X, timestamped July 22, 2026, 19:04 UTC-7, which is July 23, 02:04 UTC. Four numbered items, one attached 1920x1080 card. It gives no reason for the wind-down anywhere in its text.
| Date | Event | Status |
|---|---|---|
| July 22, 2026, 19:04 UTC-7 | Announcement published | Confirmed |
| August 4, 2026 | Version 4.7. "Some version cycles will be slightly shorter" from here | Confirmed |
| December 1, 2026 | Version 5.2, final content update. Version updates stop | Confirmed |
| After version 5.2, date not announced | Companion Server opens | Confirmed event, no date |
| Around March 2031 | Reassessment of server continuation | Confirmed |
| September 2031 | End of the planned service period | Planned, not guaranteed |
Read the notice like a lawyer
Three phrases in the announcement are doing less work than the coverage assumes.
"Planned to continue until September 2031." Not guaranteed, not committed, not contracted. The Japanese press renders it the same way: 4Gamer uses 運営予定, planned operation, and Dengeki Online 解放予定. Of the English outlets, only NoisyPixel keeps the hedge, writing "currently scheduled". Everyone else, this site included until today, upgraded a plan into a promise.
"At least five years" appears nowhere in the Global notice. That number is CN's, and it is measured from CN's companion server opening on September 17, 2026, which is how September 2031 was produced in the first place. Global inherited the end date and nothing else. December 1, 2026 to September 2031 is 4 years 9 months, and since the Global Companion Server's opening date has not been announced, the actual served period is shorter than that by however long the gap runs.
"Include, but are not limited to." Around March 2031 the operator reassesses. The two measures it names, extending server operation and converting the game into a free standalone offline client, are examples offered in a list that is explicitly open. They are not a two-option ballot, and neither one is a commitment.
What ends, and what does not
New version updates end. That is the whole of it. Until December 1 the Global build keeps shipping, in the notice's phrasing, "all the way until it catches up with the latest CN server version", which means the remaining story and the characters Global has not received yet.
The pace changes from version 4.7 on August 4, 2026: "Some version cycles will be slightly shorter than before." Some, and slightly. Not every cycle, and not an acceleration. The notice lists the pace change as its own numbered item and never states that it exists to make the catch-up fit before December 1, so that link is an inference and is not printed here as fact. Event rewards affected by the shortened cycles are compensated by in-game mail in later updates, with amount and timing unannounced.

Version 4.7 itself, Echoes of the Past, runs August 4 to 31 UTC-7 and is covered separately: the version breakdown for Echoes of the Past handles the trailer, the new S-Grade modifier Hodur and the event window. This page stays on the wind-down.
What the Companion Server preserves
The notice commits the Companion Server to existing and says the details are coming later: "Specific details regarding the Companion Server's opening date, access channels" are deferred to a future announcement. So the honest description of what players get is short. Accounts and progression persist, since the service is not ending. Content stops at version 5.2. Everything else about the arrangement, including when it starts and how it is accessed, is unpublished for Global.
CN is the only place where this state has actually been observed. There the companion server shipped as an update with a name, 「与你同行」, and it carries no paid content at all, because paid content "will no longer reopen once the companion server begins". Yongshi says it covers the CN operating costs itself, and hands out periodic free currency and costume vouchers. None of that has been stated for Global.

CN already ran this playbook, three weeks ahead
Every question the Global notice defers has a dated CN answer sitting in the past. The Chinese service announced on July 10, 2026, on bilibili, and finished executing the announcement inside a quarter.
| Date, 2026 | CN event |
|---|---|
| July 9 | New sign-ups and in-game purchases disabled |
| July 10 | Announcement published on bilibili by the project team |
| July 23 | Version 5.2 launches: final content update, farewell gift bundle, summer event, final Human World story chapter |
| August 6 to September 6 | Refund window for unused Transfer Flowers, the CN paid currency |
| September 17 | Companion server opens as the 「与你同行」 update |
| October 17 | Store listings and download access removed |
| Around March 2031 | Reassessment |
| September 2031 | Earliest end of the five-year minimum |
CN also did the one thing Global did not: it gave a reason. The project team cited constraints on team size and wrote that "the project's market performance has been less than ideal". That sentence is CN's and belongs to CN. Nothing equivalent exists in the Global text.
Two rows are worth reading against Global specifically. Purchases went off on CN a day before the announcement, so CN players got no window at all after the news; Global has said nothing about a purchase cutoff and the store was live as of August 1. And delisting came 87 days after the final update, which removed the download route entirely. CN iOS players had no third-party install path and were advised to move to the PC client to avoid losing access. No Global delisting date exists.

Refunds and paid currency
The Global position is a single sentence with four escape hatches in it. Unused paid currency that meets the refund criteria after updates stop will be refunded "in accordance with local laws, platform policies, payment provider requirements, and actual operational arrangements". Which items qualify, how to apply and when the window opens are all unpublished. The operator's only actionable line is advice: plan purchases and in-game resource usage thoughtfully.
CN turned the same promise into dates in under a month. Refund applications for unused Transfer Flowers run August 6 to September 6, 2026, a 31-day window opening two weeks after the final update. If Global follows the shape rather than the calendar, the equivalent window would open after December 1 and close within weeks of it. That is a precedent, not a schedule, and no part of it has been confirmed for Global.

Who actually operates Aether Gazer
Not Yostar. Yostar (Hong Kong) Limited stopped publishing this game on April 21, 2025 at 18:00 UTC-7, a handover announced on February 17, 2025 and completed with an account migration from Yostar accounts to YOUNGS accounts by June 30, 2025, progress and recharge records intact.
The current publisher and operator worldwide is HONG KONG YONGSHI NETWORK TECHNOLOGY CO., LIMITED. Verified live on August 1, 2026: that string is both the seller and the artist field on App Store listing id6445892204, and Google Play lists the developer as YONGSHI NETWORK. Development sits with Xiamen Yongshi, studio name 弥弥尔工作室, Mimir Studio.
Two leftovers keep producing the error. The Android package is still com.YoStar.AetherGazer, and the official YouTube channel is still titled "Aether Gazer Official - Yostar". Both are cosmetic remnants of a publishing deal that ended 15 months ago. As of August 2026, NoisyPixel, GamingOnPhone and GamerBraves all still credit Yostar for the end-of-content decision. Game8 writes "Team Yongshi", which is close. The company on the hook for the Companion Server through 2031 is Yongshi.

Three services, three names, one unresolved question
Aether Gazer runs as three services, and the July 22 notice covers one of them. 4Gamer states explicitly that it applies to the Global version and not to the Japanese or Chinese mainland versions.
| Service | Status as of August 1, 2026 | Successor branding |
|---|---|---|
| CN, 深空之眼 | Content finished. Version 5.2 shipped July 23, 2026. Companion server opens September 17, delisting October 17 | 「与你同行」 |
| Global, EN | Content ends December 1, 2026 with version 5.2 | Companion Server |
| JP, エーテルゲイザー | No separate announcement found | メモリアルサーバー, Memorial Server |
The JP row is where the certainty stops. The Japanese service has its own official account, but it shares the same App Store binary as Global, id6445892204, with server selection inside the client. Whether "the global version" administratively includes the JP server is not clarified in any source found. The Japanese-language coverage supplies the successor branding, メモリアルサーバー, without resolving the scope question. Treat it as open.
What is not committed
The notice is generous with events and thin on obligations. Stated plainly, none of the following has been announced for Global:
- an opening date for the Companion Server, or how it is accessed
- a guarantee, of any length, of server operation
- a reason for the wind-down
- a purchase cutoff date, or any statement that the store closes
- refund eligibility rules, an application method or an application window
- a delisting date
- any commitment on OS and platform compatibility across the next five years
- any position on save data portability or an offline client, beyond March 2031 being named as the moment an offline client might be considered
Three things that would move this page
A Companion Server opening date. It is the difference between 4 years 9 months of service and something shorter, and it is the one number that converts the September 2031 headline into an actual duration. CN published its date, September 17, on the day it announced. Global has not, ten days in.
A purchase cutoff. CN switched purchases off on July 9, one day before announcing. Global's store was still open on August 1, six weeks into a wind-down with a known end date for content. Whether a cutoff lands before December 1 or the store simply runs into the transition tells you what to do with the next battle pass.
The refund notice. CN's window opened two weeks after its final update. The equivalent Global document would name eligible items and a window, and it is the only thing that turns "in accordance with local laws" into a claim a player can actually file. Its absence in December, with version 5.2 live, would be the finding.

FAQ
Is Aether Gazer shutting down? No. The July 22 notice says "this does not mean the game is shutting down. You'll still be able to log in and play." What stops is new version updates, after version 5.2 on December 1, 2026.
Can I still play after December 1, 2026? Yes. A Companion Server takes over after version 5.2. Its service is planned to continue until September 2031, and planned is the operator's own word. No guarantee has been given, and the server's opening date has not been announced.
Is the Companion Server guaranteed for five years? No, on both counts. There is no guarantee language for Global anywhere in the notice, and there is no five-year figure either. The five-year minimum is CN's commitment, running from CN's companion server opening on September 17, 2026. December 1, 2026 to September 2031 is 4 years 9 months.
Will I get my money back? Unknown for Global. The notice commits only to refunding unused paid currency that meets the refund criteria, "in accordance with local laws, platform policies, payment provider requirements, and actual operational arrangements". Eligible items, the application method and the window are all unannounced. On CN, the window runs August 6 to September 6, 2026 for unused Transfer Flowers.
Should I keep spending? The operator's own line is to plan purchases and in-game resource usage thoughtfully, which is as close to a warning as the document gets. No purchase cutoff has been announced for Global. On CN, purchases were disabled on July 9, 2026 and paid content does not reopen on the companion server.
Why is this happening? The Global notice gives no reason at all. The only reason on record is CN's, published July 10, 2026 on bilibili: constraints on team size, and in the project team's words, "the project's market performance has been less than ideal."
Does this affect the Japanese version? Not confirmed. 4Gamer states the announcement covers the Global version and not the Japanese or Chinese mainland versions. Japan shares the same App Store build as Global with in-client server selection and has had no separate announcement, so the scope is genuinely unresolved.
Who publishes Aether Gazer?
Hong Kong Yongshi Network Technology Co., Limited, since April 21, 2025. Not Yostar. The App Store seller field and the Google Play developer field both name Yongshi. The com.YoStar.AetherGazer package name and the YouTube channel title are leftovers from the previous deal.
What happens in March 2031? The operator reassesses server continuation. The measures it names, extending operation or converting the game into a free standalone offline client, are given as examples in a list that "include, but are not limited to" them. Neither is committed.
When do updates speed up? They do not, exactly. From version 4.7 on August 4, 2026, "some version cycles will be slightly shorter than before". Rewards from events affected by the change are compensated by in-game mail in subsequent updates.
